Accentuating Your Soft Skills

How do you make sure your soft skills shine in an interview?

You prepare to show those personal attributes that enable you to interact effectively with other people. These skills can be just as essential as technical skills in determining your fit for a role.

Here are a few examples of questions that can help you explore a candidate’s soft skills during an interview:

🤞 Can you give an example of a time when you had to work with a difficult colleague or customer? How did you handle the situation, and what was the outcome?

🤞 Describe a situation where you had to decide under pressure. How did you handle the situation, and what was the outcome?

🤞 Can you tell me about a project you led and what was your approach to managing the team?

🤞 Have you ever had to apologize or make amends for a mistake at work? How did you handle the situation?

🤞 Can you describe a time when you had to adapt to a change at work? How did you handle it, and what was the outcome?

🤞 Can you tell me about a time when you had to persuade a team member or manager to see things your way?

🤞 Can you give an example of how you have used communication skills to resolve a conflict?

These are just a few examples. You may come up with more related or specific questions based on the position and company culture. The key is to answer questions that will give your interviewer an idea of how you handle particular situations and interact with others in a work setting.
