Cameras On?

šŸ“¹ Lights, Camera, Trust! In a world post-COVID, where the lines between work and home have blurred into an indistinguishable smear, the humble camera becomes our new handshake. Stay with me here.

Pre-pandemic, we read body language in boardrooms, caught the subtle nuances in a colleagueā€™s expression over a coffee break, and built rapport through serendipitous water cooler moments. Fast forward to now: the pixels on a screen are our boardroom, and that coffee? Itā€™s brewed at home.

Hereā€™s the raw truth: Trust isnā€™t binary. Itā€™s built on a complex scaffold of emotional, visual, and auditory cues. With remote work becoming the new modus operandi, our virtual visibility (or the lack thereof) is the new determinant of trust. Cameras off? Itā€™s akin to negotiating a deal with sunglasses on ā€” impersonal, distant, and letā€™s admit, a tad suspicious.

Switching that camera on is more than just showcasing your ā€˜home officeā€™ (or that fancy virtual background). Itā€™s signaling a willingness to engage, to be present, and to foster genuine connections in a world starved of face-to-face interactions.

Letā€™s face it, Zoom fatigue is real, but human connection is realer. The intimacy and vulnerability of allowing someone a peek into your space, quirks and all, is the cornerstone of building authentic relationships in this digital-first era.

So, hereā€™s my plea: As we navigate the evolving tectonics of the post-COVID work landscape, flip that camera switch to ON. Your team doesnā€™t just need to hear you, they need to see you. Be present, be seen, be trust.
