Let me tell you something, studies have shown that gaming is not just a hobby, it’s a valuable skillset that can be applied to your future working life. You see, gaming can improve your spatial awareness, cognitive processing, mental health, social skills, and decision-making capabilities. So, if you’re a gamer, you’re already ahead of the game.

But how can you use these skills to shape your career? Well, first of all, don’t settle. Just like in video games, your career should be fast-moving, dynamic, and anything but static. Every job requires problem-solving, strategy, and teamwork, just like every video game. But not every company is created equal. Aim to find an organization that values your skills and will help you grow.

Now, let’s talk about challenging your beliefs. You know how you often write off a video game before even playing it? The same goes for your career. You may have personal beliefs about certain companies, industries, and job titles. But just like you shouldn’t judge a game by its cover, you shouldn’t do the same with jobs. Take the time to speak to people on the inside and challenge your preconceived notions.

Next up, try again. Fail again. Fail better. In real life, we’re often too afraid to fail because we believe we won’t get a second chance. But just like in video games, we can test hypotheses, experiment, process variables, and establish new ways of understanding our world. Don’t be afraid to take risks and try new things.

And finally, have patience. Just like video games, work can be repetitive, but that doesn’t have to be a bad thing. The patience and hard work you put in now will pay off long-term. And when you finally achieve your goals, it will be all the more satisfying.

So, think like a creator. Game developers often employ transformational creativity, and you can do the same in your work life. Embrace adjacency and think about how other, adjacent disciplines might approach a similar problem. You never know, you might just come up with something revolutionary.

That’s it for now. Keep gaming, and keep working towards your goals. Remember, you’re already ahead of the game.
