Half of America Has, Half of American Hasn’t

I’m not going to tell a story that’s been told before — instead, I’m going to grieve for what America’s been reduced to over the course of several years, not just the months that have proceeded this recent, precipitous economic decline. Choosing that word, I cast my lot with those who feel that the United States is somehow holy different, whether by Providence or just sheer hard work, a country of Exceptionalism. Similarly, something has shifted — and shifted hard — beneath our feet, and recently, it’s been backed up by cruel data. And that is where we are…

Half of America has the belief that we are still something extraordinary. And half of American hasn’t that belief. It’s kind like half of America has a mask to wear, while half of American hasn’t the care. At the same time, half of America has freedom, and protesters call out for their freedom long deprived. Something, indeed, has shifted. We, yes, us Americans, a motley crew face a new indignation, but again, we do it spectacularly separately. What’s that?
