Interview tip: Get to the heart of the challenge ahead!

As the candidate, you want to ask, “What are the biggest challenges going to be for the person in this position?”

Think of this as making a road map to your success.

When they talk to you about their biggest challenges, you’ll know exactly what stories to tell about how you have tackled (and conquered) similar challenges. You will show them that you are a great fit for this job.

Take notes about what the core problem is and have examples ready to illustrate that you’ve taken on similar challenges with success.

I would note that you might want to be careful about the examples and anecdotes you provide in your answer.

For example, if you faced a challenge that you caused, avoid mentioning it during your interview.

Instead, consider highlighting situations that showed you in a heroic light or effectively working as part of a team.

After all, your anecdotes need to show your strengths rather than your weaknesses as an employee.
