Interview Tip #31
Who thinks “Tell me about yourself” is a trick interview question?
It’s so simple, right? Simply spill the beans about who you are and what you like to do.
Wait. It’s not so simple.
Did you know that many people fail to prepare for it?
It’s crucial.
Here’s what’s up: this is not an “opportunity” for you to relive the high’s and low’s of your epic career history. Let me also add that you don’t want to give your complete employment or personal history.
Instead, tell a story or give a pitch that’s concise and compelling and that shows exactly why you’re the right fit for the job. Tell them why you chose this as your career.
Like any good story, it happens in 3 acts: use a present, past, and future formula. Talk a little bit about your current role, including the scope and perhaps one big accomplishment, then give some background as to how you got there and the experience you have that’s relevant. Finally, explain why you want this role and what difference you would bring to the team.
Easy peasy, right?
You’ve got this. Crush that interview!
