Life’s Too Short for “Good Enough” Jobs

Let’s talk about job market whiplash. You’re in a maze of uncertainty, armed with a resume and just enough optimism to power through another week of interviews. It’s easy to get to that tipping point where “good enough” starts looking appealing, where you’re ready to settle — even if it’s for a role that makes you feel like a square peg jammed into a round hole.

Here’s the thing: life’s too short for mediocre. But when the pressure’s on — bills piling up, family counting on you, recruiters spinning dreams like it’s an Olympic sport — the idea of grabbing the next offer starts to feel… practical. And let’s face it, the allure of a steady paycheck can look pretty damn good when you’re staring down a heap of financial stress.

But let me ask you this: can you really “make it work” if it’s already feeling wrong? You can force yourself into a role that doesn’t quite fit, try to align with a culture that makes you cringe, and even convince yourself that this compromise is a smart move. Yet, at some point, reality bites, and you’re left thinking, “Why did I settle?”

Finding a role that truly fits isn’t just about idealism; it’s about sanity. So, job seekers, let’s set a higher bar — for ourselves, for our work, and for what “success” really means. Because the right job, not just a job, is worth the wait.

Hi there, I’m Brian, and in addition to this Medium, I wrote The Main Thing is The Main Thing. As you walk this path, not only do you become a beacon of clarity in a foggy world, but you morph into a version of yourself that’s bolder, brighter, and unapologetically authentic. Make sure your main thing is the lead vocalist, and watch as the symphony around you changes its tune.
