The Math Against Kanye
In case you missed it over the weekend, Kanye West announced a potential 2020 presidential bid in a bizarre 4th of July tweet.
And I’m excited about the repercussions and implications it could have on this election and the future of American Democracy. For starters, there’s an entire generation that hasn’t seen an energetic, self-made third party candidate since Ross Perot. Also when we we have two “low-energy” white guys in their seventies vying for The Oval Office, doesn’t the upstart candidacy of a self-made billionaire seem like it deserves to be more than just a punchline? Could Kanye West open the door to more democracy and more ideas? Or is this a publicity stunt for himself or a project unrelated to the presidency? What would happen if we stopped scapegoating third party candidates and their supporters?
